Thank you for your interest in joining McKendree UMC. We are glad that McKendree feels like a spiritual home.
When you join the church, all of McKendree UMC promises to support your lifelong faith journey as a Christian and provide a loving, nurturing community. You promise to do the same. You will serve God through McKendree UMC and support your church family through your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.
Who joins McKendree UMC?
Anyone who wants to serve Jesus and grow together! Our members come from a variety of backgrounds. The following questions help determine how you will be joining, based on your church background.
Are you currently a member of another United Methodist Church or other Christian church?
If so, you will be transferring your membership to McKendree UMC.
Are you joining a church for the first time and have already been baptized?
You will join on Profession of Faith (joining a church for the first time) or Reaffirmation of Faith (renewing your faith after a period of inactivity). The United Methodist Church honors baptisms from all denominations, so new members will not be baptized again.
Are you joining and have never been baptized?
You will first be baptized as part of the worship service. You will then join on Profession of Faith during the worship service. Baptism is the sacrament in which we celebrate rebirth and that we are connected to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Connected to Christ connects us to one another as one body.
