Welcome to McKendree UMC Preschool

Our Preschool offers a safe, positive and inclusive environment founded in Christian values that acknowledges and respects the needs of all of our children, families and staff.

Curriculum

A developmentally appropriate, child centered, play based curriculum

The curriculum at McKendree is guided by the Georgia Early Learning and Developmental Standards. GELDS

We focus on building relationships with our children. Being child centered and developmentally appropriate means that we spend time observing and getting to know children so that we can meet them at their level. Then using our knowledge of child development, milestones and the five areas (domains) of learning we can ensure that children can access the curriculum in a way that is relevant and meaningful to them.

Play based? We grown-ups usually see play as a break or a putting-off of learning or serious work. But as famous child psychologist  Jean Piaget said, “Play is the work of children” Or in the words of Fred Rogers, “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning”.

Our job as teachers at McKendree is to ensure that our children have a rock solid foundation filled with opportunities. We facilitate learning while having fun during the process. Through a mixture of hands-on experiences, group activities, and individual play, our children develop the emotional, social, physical, intellectual, and spiritual skills necessary for all aspects of life.
